I’m planning to make a short trailer for my production and
I will try to show how an average group of friends from an urban
environment who’s trying to make it into a sports career basketball and the
different routes they have and the impact of each decision. Although, they're
surrounded by bad people who do things which are illegal, some of them are
trying to live a good life and avoid all problems of such whereas, the others
have given up. this will be shown by their attitudes and way of speaking which will
be through diegetic sound and mise en scene which will show how successful
their lifestyle of criminal activities have done e.g. by designer
clothing, money, drugs. Although, their background/environment stops them
from searching for their success and has determined to prove everyone wrong and
make it out of the "hood". However, the group of friends split up
into 2, they choice different routes. This will show how
stereotypes aren't right as people do try to escape certain environments to
have a better life. I will be using a lot of non-diegetic sound which will
create tension throughout as it’ll be upbeat and have cuts of dialogue
throughout.
The idea of this is to represent that the "hood" is shown to lead you in one way which is a bad lifestyle and no matter how hard you try it won’t be possible to escape. This is why my target market will be aimed at ABC1 and ages of 12+. the reason I’ve picked these demographics is because ages early as 12 would be wondering what life has to offer growing up and how different life choices can effect your life and how to avoid problems that some of the characters will face. further more, the ABC1 groups would be getting educated on how people struggle in life on a day to day basis, which would help them eliminate the negative stereotype of people in urban areas are corrupt but this displays how they're forced into the lifestyle. also, reformers and inspires would like this coming of age films as it helps them view life in different angles and how people not in their environment is surviving and what negativity life offers them.
The media theory of Todorv's equilibrium theory will start of to be
the friends talking about what they're going to do as they decide whether or
not they should follow a route. the disequilibrium of this trailer would be
when the group who choice the road life encounter a major problem where someone
they know gets killed and are panicking on what to do. the new
equilibrium will be when the group of friends try help the others get out of
that life style and guide them to a better route where they all study and work
hard to make it out and the end result will be them getting scouted for a
team.
Blumler and Katz theory is displayed throughout this trailer/production as it shows personal identification. for example, the younger viewers may relate to this as they're growing up and experiencing these issues. also, personal relations is shown which relates to the viewers as they could sympathise for the characters as they may see this happen in everyday life. To an extent, this shows surveillance. This is because it shows what’s occurring in less economic areas of London is like and how they have to struggle through life to succeed. Diversion is shown through this production as it demonstrates how social media can influence a person. this is done by showing off on social medias with loads of money, and designer clothes as they think it'll make them better people and to stand out as famous people wear these clothes.
The way my production will gain awareness is by social media apps like Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook as I could upload snippets of my production work which will gain interest of my target market as people as young as 12 are socially active on these social medias. Furthermore, posters could be placed on Facebook when scrolling down which can also contain a catchy slogan so people will easily identify it. in addition, word of mouth could increase the awareness/promotion of my production as screenshots could be posted of the poster or parts of the trailer so it can gain more viewers as people would be curious of what the plot of this is as its in a known/relate-able scenes e.g. estates, basketball courts etc. BFI would support the making of my production as they're a low budget film company and they would like my production idea as it displays stereotypes and beliefs and how they aren't always correct.
