o some generic research on film posters.

1) List the key conventions of a film poster. title, social media, subject, reviews

2) What makes a film poster instantly recognisable? subject, title, social medias, credits, branding, stars

3) What are regarded as some of the best film posters of all time? Why? one of the best film posters of all time is jaws. this is because itshows the threat on the poster which would make the viewer wonder how they'll stop the shark or how it involves it.

4) Look back at your statement of intent. What are you planning to produce in terms of your film posters? Can you take inspiration from your research above? to demonstrate to separate paths (1st one person in the middle and on each side are the two paths). the second one would show the positive path by one icon(light/dark grey/blue background). the 3 rd poster will be the same as the 2nd but shows the bad path (dark/shadowy/red background) Centre point will be dark.

the convention of this poster is a big bold title near the middle of the poster but not covering the actors faces as it doesn't cover their facial expressions .there's credits at the bottom of the post showing whos made what within the production the difference between the both posters is that the right one has an enigma code which is a gun, resulting to violence and trouble. however, in the left corner there's a ball of money which can represent their motivation and how they make their money. furthermore, in both posts there's plenty of quotes and reviews around the posters which can mean its a successful film which can show different prospective of life and how things can change. the things id take from this poster would be the outfits and lighting as the gold chains standout from the dark background, drawing our attention to their wealth and success.

in the centre of the poster it displays the film name in bright orange so it's easily noticeable. there's a body shot of the main character "eminem". this is an enigma code as it shows that he's the protagonist and if there's any equilibrium it'll involve him.  this targets viewers aged from 15+ as hes a recognised raper who people admire and look up to . therefore, this will lead viewers to have personal relations with this film as they're seeing the life of the character. at the bottom of the poster it shows the editors and producers who are credited for their work. also, the character in the poster is writing his raps on his hand which could display lack of wealth for him and his family and this is one of the various ways he can remember his rap. the things i could use from this is the having the main characters in one shot showing/resembling different personalities and choices.

there's a title which is clearly visible so it can be identified easily, there's quotes and ratings by critics. at the bottom of the title it displays/credits all the directors and producers e.t.c who had influenced this movie. just by looking at this poster it shows where the film would be set and the enigma code of the baseball bat which can demonstrate future violence. this film is targeted at teenagers from 15+ due to it showing what the reality of life is like in urban communities and how people end up. from this poster i can use enigma codes e.g. fake knifes, guns, basketballs, basketball kits e.t.c

the conventions of this poster is a large title which is clear to see as its in white(no contrast with colours). also, there's branding from sponsored film companies along with credits of the producers and editors e.t.c who have help make this film. this image/poster displays that this film will consist of basketball as the main topic or gateway from reality. the enigma code of the coach standing on the ball may display his accomplishment as his body structure is shown to be looking back before leaving the court. there's more than on character in each poster showing the importance of being a team. the target market for this film would be from 12+ as it touches on real life problems, where people have 2 paths to go by and it displays how a urban area can corrupt a person and change their way of life and that there's more to live for. from this poster i can use the props e.g. basketball and basketball kits.

The title of this poster is in big bold font so its easily recognised. the 3 Central images are enigma codes as it could display their friendship and bond as noone else is involved in the poster and that the equilibrium will involve all 3 of them. there's credits at the bottom showing who has done what to create this films e.g. editors. the target audience for this film would be 18+ as the people in the poster look angry or as if they've seen something due to the quote saying "increase the peace" this relates to the time period of police burtality. also, this poster credits the actors but the viewer can automatically identify whos starring in it e,g, famous person ice cube so people would have personal relations with him. furthermore, there's quotes and ratings to demonstrate the success of what this poster was trying to show. from this poster, i will use ratings and quotes to make it look more professional. also, use central images showing facial expressions .

Planning and sketching

1) Create a spider diagram or bullet point list of everything you plan to include in your film posters AND all the ways you could target the three target audience segments outlined in the brief: fans of the genre, males, females. Make sure you also create a local film festival in order to meet this aspect of the brief.

  • settings e.g. estates
  • different age groups
  • different races
  • represent real life problems e.g. drug addicts
  • basketball - males and females like it
  • brands of clothing e.g. jordan, adidas
  • show a division between the 2 groups

this poster demonstrates the division in the production and the choices that are made can lead you into the different groups. for example the person sitting down is confused whether they should follow the basketball route or being a criminal. this is targeted at 12+ as it targets real issues in society and how people can influence each other easily.
this is a long shot of thugs outside of a shop being antisocial and selling drugs along with doing them. this demonstrates life in urban placing as society doesn't sympathise for the poor or unsuccessful and this is the only way of life, however, this can be seen as them being bad causing problems and that they choice to pick this life. this relates to my film as there's 2 paths and it'll show how they end up in each of them.therefore, this targets 12+ as it draws out real problems and how discrimination isn't always correct.
this poster is a pov shot of one character and it shows the both paths he could pick e.g. basketball or thugging. this is simple but deep poster as it displays both ways of life. for example playing basketball having fun and trying to become a pro or make a lot of money at a young age and to have fun doing whatever they want. this is because social media has influenced people to do bad thinls or to dress a certain way and being able to do this you'll need lots of money and by selling drugs is the way to do it. this is aimed at 12+ as it shows that you dont need to have designer clothes pr drugs to fit into society and that there's more things in life to look forward to.

all of these posters target males and females as they can relate to it as they may live in these areas or maybe under the influence of what my production is showing. also, this targets reformers and aspiresas  this shows different peoples views on the life their living and why they do these things. this is because the media manipulates the audience to think young people choice this life or any person whos from these environments. therefore, this will draw in more viewers as its something different and shows other peoples emotions and how they want to succeed but there isn't any help or jobs so they result to this.
Photoshoot planning

1) Which of your characters will appear on each poster? If the characters will be the same on each poster, how will you differentiate the images?
all of them on the first one, second one only some and the same with the 3rd as the first one is the main one.

2) What images do you need for each film poster? Write a detailed description. mixture of males wearing urban clothing and sports wear to demonstrate the split of the film and different path ways to live.

3) Write a shot list for the photoshoot(s). Make sure you plan a variety of camera shots you will look to capture (medium shots, close-ups etc.) to give yourself flexibility when designing the posters in Photoshop later. Will the photoshoot be out on location or in school with the white backdrop and lighting? long shot of one person sitting in a chair in the middle and on each side basketball players and thugs with dark and light lighting. another shot will be a long shot of people playing basketball with the thugs in the distance
