Capital: Representation question

Plan

Kumar Family
Rodger's Family
Polish builders
Old woman's house
Traffic Warden

The show Capital is a show about a street that has begun to receive postcards from a mysterious sender, which say 'we want what you have',  the statement of whether Capital is a family drama rather than a crime drama is a very mixed opinion.  A definition of a crime Drama is a TV programme that focuses on a crime that is committed and is being researched to be solved. As for any genre, the crime drama features conventions such as Police tapes, Detectives, Victims and more. While Capital does focus on the crime of the postcards the show is much more focused on the aspects of all these people that live on Pepys Road and the whole aspect f the Postcards are dismissed as a marketing campaign as well as is put in the background of the first episode, while the family lives are focused on. A family drama is a show that is about the aspect of family and their conflicts and issues,  the show features an ensemble cast that all reside in their own lives most the time, making appearances every so often with each other.  The old woman is being struck with the challenges of cancer with the response of her family, the Kumar family have an unwanted guest and kids that aren't aware of their responsibilities, the banker has someone hack into account and low bonuses, Quintina is faced with the challenges of immigration and the aspects of love while lastly, the polish builders seem to be forming a civil rivalry with jealousy due to their personal space. These all culminate to from the ensemble cast and the key aspects of a family drama, as none of these refer to the postcard 'crime' that is being committed, the only character who strictly links to the postcards is the police detective who does not live on the road nor do we see his family. The only thing that links all the families are the postcards being received by the neighbors. In the show the representation of families we receive are that not all families are perfect no matter what social class they reside in, this offers the viewers an aspect of how different people can all have problems no matter how successful. The scene of the Kumar family dinner coneys the compact lives of living in a small environment and how the scene begins in a state of happiness, with the family talking to their aunty in Pakistan, the conversation follows to speak of the sons and their responsibilities which leads to a dispute from the father of them not knowing their responsibilities and not taking anything seriously, this conveys the unexpected nature of families from going from peace to a awkward moment at the table, this entire conflict does not revolve anything around the postcards as they are mantioned but are then cast aside by the families problem. I strongly agree to the statement of the show Capital being a Family Drama over being a Crime Drama, as it puts the story of the postcards in the background while the lives and conflicts of the lives of the families are put in the spotlight.
